ECORI NEWS, REPORTING INTERN

Reports and writes spot news and three long-form pieces on how climate change impacts key constituencies in Rhode Island: Indigenous peoples, fossil fuel workers and downtown developments. Pursued and received documents (building elevation certificates) from government agencies (the State of Rhode Island's Building Code Commission, and the Providence Department of Inspection and Standards) via requesting in person and over email.

KANSAS LEADERSHIP CENTER'S THE JOURNAL, CONTRIBUTING WRITER

Wrote three 2,500 - 3,000 word pieces on criminal justice in Douglas County. Supported statewide Kansas Beats the Virus effort through three pieces on community solutions to Covid-19.

SHAWNEE MISSION POST, CONTRIBUTING WRITER

Wrote breaking and feature news stories about twice a month. Covered local government, environmental issues and education.

Generated three to five news and feature story ideas a week, assigned them to staff writers and edited their work. I specifically worked on the campus activism and diversity and student life beats, which required extensive relationship-building with sources.

Grew an ad-hoc video team into a functioning organization by integrating team into workflow of daily newspaper and recruiting six more members, doubling the team's size. I trained new videographers in shooting, interviewing, setting up a shot and more.

In overseeing the paper's online presence, I integrated a breaking news system into the workflow of the bimonthly newspaper. Additionally, a package I led on sexual assault at my high school went on to win awards against professional newspapers, such as the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
